Keep conditions consistent
When you compare equipment, record the weather and location as well as the item. A change in conditions can look like a gear effect. Do not assume that a visible number directly translates into extra minutes outside.
Plan the kit and the return
Use a loadout note for what you intend to carry and a shelter note for where you intend to return. These tools help organise preparation; they do not certify a safe temperature or survival duration.
